Alfonso X, known as the Wise, was king of León and Castile and one of the most important figures in the history of the medieval Iberian Peninsula. He encouraged the translation of works into Castilian, promoting the development of the language and culture, and left a lasting legacy through his own compilations and treatises in various fields of knowledge.
