Du grec amphibrachys : court des deux côtés. Utilisé dans la versification quantitative grecque et latine ; rare mais distinctif en anglais.
Définition
Pied métrique de trois syllabes : inaccentuée-accentuée-inaccentuée (u — u), créant un rythme balancé et ondulant.
Exemple
Les mots « a-LIV-ing », « be-LONG-ing », « re-MEM-ber » forment chacun une unité amphibrachique.
