Aging
When the shadow of age comes
only helplessness remains.
We sing our songs for no one.
We give our cries in vain.
For the best of our days are gone
and the rest of our hopes are dead.
Now the space is still to come
and the time stands not ahead.
Friends no more than names in stones.
Tears of widows upon their graves.
Wives living their lives alone
Left in freedom as life slaves.
While I'm passing my days at home,
writing letters I never send,
I say to myself, "now it's done!"
It's too late to be the end!
only helplessness remains.
We sing our songs for no one.
We give our cries in vain.
For the best of our days are gone
and the rest of our hopes are dead.
Now the space is still to come
and the time stands not ahead.
Friends no more than names in stones.
Tears of widows upon their graves.
Wives living their lives alone
Left in freedom as life slaves.
While I'm passing my days at home,
writing letters I never send,
I say to myself, "now it's done!"
It's too late to be the end!
