Poeta y escritor británico. Nació en Mytholmroyd, Yorkshire, y estudió en la Universidad de Cambridge. En sus poemas, que a veces expresan emociones violentas, suelen aparecer personajes de animales, como Cuervo (1970). La poesía de Hughes es física, de un tono casi feroz, y enfatiza el inconsciente. Sus obras incluyen El halcón en la lluvia (1957), Lupercal (1960), Wodwo (1967), Poemas selectos: 1957-1967 (1972), Canciones de temporada (1976) y Moortown (1979). Ha escrito obras de teatro, poemas y cuentos para niños, entre ellos, Bajo la estrella polar (1981) y Qué es la verdad? (1984). Hughes estuvo casado con la poeta estadounidense Sylvia Plath.
