Antonio de Solís y Ribadeneyra was born in Alcalá de Henares, Spain, on July 18, 1610. He was one of the most important writers of the Spanish Golden Age. He began his literary career with theatrical works, but he particularly distinguished himself as a historian. His most famous work is 'Historia de la conquista de México' (History of the Conquest of Mexico), published in 1684, which narrates the events of the conquest of the Aztec Empire with great detail and refined literary style. He was also a distinguished orator and held positions at court, including that of chief chronicler of Spain. He died on a date and at a place that have not been specified.
