Childhood is the world of miracle and wonder; as if creation rose, bathed in light out of the darkness, utterly new and fresh and astonishing. The end of childhood is when things cease to astonish us.

Eugène Ionesco (born Eugen Ionescu on November 26, 1909, in Slatina, Kingdom of Romania – died March 28, 1994, in Paris, France) was a Romanian-French playwright, one of the creators of the Theatre of the Absurd. His work is distinguished by fragmented language, illogical situations, and existential themes such as emptiness, solitude, and incommunicability. Ionesco sought to portray the absurdity of the human condition through theatre that challenged traditional dramatic conventions. His plays frequently explore the alienation of the individual in a society in crisis, using black humor and the grotesque to provoke reflection. He was a member of the Académie Française, a rare honor for a playwright. His influence on contemporary theatre is undeniable, having inspired generations of writers and directors to explore new forms of scenic expression.
