Bio
Michel Butor
Michel Butor (1926-2016) was a French novelist and essayist, one of the main exponents of the Nouveau Roman. His work is marked by experimentation with narrative forms and by the deconstruction of the conventions of the traditional novel.
Butor challenged classic narrative structures, using techniques such as the second person, fragmentation, and the exploration of space and time. His novels, such as « La Modification », are often labyrinthine and invite the reader to actively participate in the construction of meaning.
In addition to his fiction, Butor was a prolific essayist, writing about art, literature, travel, and society. His work is a deep reflection on perception, language, and the human condition in the modern world. He also dedicated himself to poetry and criticism.
