Stanisław Jerzy Lec was born in Lviv, which at the time belonged to Poland. During World War II, he was imprisoned in Nazi concentration camps, including Auschwitz. After the war, he lived in Warsaw, where he continued his literary career. His works are characterized by an epigrammatic style and a deep observation of human nature, often with a satirical and philosophical tone. Lec also translated works by German authors into Polish. His legacy lies in his ability to distill complex truths into memorable aphorisms, which continue to be widely quoted and appreciated.
