Hope and Optimism

Both optimists and pessimists contribute to society. The optimist invents the aeroplane, the pessimist the parachute.

He who despairs over an event is a coward, but he who holds hope for the human condition is a fool.

In the depths of winter I finally learned there was in me an invincible summer.

Real sorrow is incompatible with hope. No matter how great that sorrow may be, hope raises it one hundred cubits higher.

A hush is over everything— / Silent as women wait for love, / The world is waiting for the spring.

Look for a lovely thing and you will find it, / It is not far— / It never will be far.

Ring out the want, the care, the sin

 

A single sunbeam is enough to drive away many shadows.

My grandkids say, 'Reality Bites.' O.K., but it also challenges and rewards...I believe our best days are yet to come.

When we lose one blessing, another is often, most unexpectedly, given in its place.

Beware how you take away hope from another human being.

It is better to have dreamed a thousand dreams that never were than never to have dreamed at all.

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace! Where there is hatred let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy.

 

For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty forever beyond its reach.

Hope is not victory.

Remember, Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.

Uncertainty is the refuge of hope.

Good actions get good results in time.

Oh yet we trust that somehow good

 

Some alien blessing is on its way to us.

 

If only I am keen and hard like the sheer tip of a wedge Driven by invisible blows, The rock will split, we shall come at the wonder, we shall find the Hesperides.

 

Cleave ever to the sunnier side of doubt.
