Soul

Music is the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life.

That is happiness; to be dissolved into something complete and great. When it comes to one, it comes as naturally as sleep.

Every man hath a good and a bad angel attending on him in particular all his life long.

The soul of man is immortal and imperishable.

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

There is only one journey. Going inside yourself.

You, who have gotten under the skin of so many people and, indeed, of humanity, have had no occasion to slip under mine.

Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting:

The important thing is not to think much but to love much.

Our goodness derives not from our capacity to think but to love.

Music is feeling, then, not sound.

It is perfectly certain that the soul is immortal and imperishable, and our souls will actually exist in another world.

My soul is an enchanted boat,

Vital spark of heav’nly flame!

But if we are guided by me we shall believe that the soul is immortal and capable of enduring all extremes of good and evil, and so we shall hold ever to the upward way and pursue righteousness with wisdom always and ever.

Turn the key deftly in the oilèd wards,

Only a sweet and virtuous soul,

I am the family face;

Anger is one of the sinews of the soul.

We dance round in a ring and suppose,

I believe man will not merely endure, he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he, alone among creatures, has an inexhaustible voice but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance.
